WATERING BAN IN EFFECT

One of the City’s water wells has gone down. Due to this, the City has issued a water ban that will be strictly enforced. Residents CANNOT water their lawns or use water for recreational purposes (washing cars, filling pools, etc.) during this time. If residents ignore this ban, there is a possibility we will not be able to keep up with the water demand and be without water altogether. We ask that you limit the amount of water you use for necessities (laundry, dishes, showers)while we work on getting it back up and running.

We will allow residents to water their vegetable gardens on an odd even schedule based on their addresses.  Watering will only be permitted between the hours of 8PM and 7AM.

We are working with our engineers and the DNR to obtain the proper permits to remedy the issues but this will take time.

When we have updates we will put them out. We understand that this is a inconvenience and apologize. Thank you for your cooperation.

Amnesty Week June 12th-18th

Remsen’s City-Wide Clean up Week June 12 – 18,  2021

The City of Remsen is declaring an amnesty from the landfill disposal cost during the above designated dates of June 12 –18, 2021. Up to 2,000 pounds per household of “throw away” material delivered to the Plymouth County Landfill in Le Mars, Iowa will be paid by the City of Remsen and not billed to the household. Only residential properties (not commercial or industrial) can participate. Each household that wishes to participate must make their own arrangements and is responsible for hauling their material to the landfill during this amnesty period.

The City WILL NOT be picking up items at curbside as done prior to 2014. Do not place items in front of your house at curb side.

ITEMS NOT INCLUDED IN THIS AMNESTY:
• CONCRETE
• HAZARDOUS WASTE (paint, thinner, pesticide, insecticide, herbicide, batteries, fertilizer, fuels, oils)
• TIRES
• NORMAL HOUSEHOLD GARBAGE
• YARD WASTE

Citizens must pay aper item demanufacturing charge at time of drop off for any “White Goods”. These include: air conditioners, microwaves, washers, dryers, refrigerators, freezers, fluorescent lights, water heaters, furnaces, dishwashers, dehumidifiers, ranges, ovens, trash compactors, and other cooling units.

Water Restrictions

Due to the current dry conditions, we are asking our residents to begin to be conservative in their water use.

We are asking residents who wish to water their lawns to do so on an odd/even schedule. If you have an odd house number, you may water your lawn on odd calendar dates. We also ask that you water your lawns during the evening hours.

We are hoping that if everyone cooperates with these modifications, we will not have to implement a full blown water ban.
