City Wide Clean Up–Amnesty at Landfill

Remsen’s Clean up week will be Saturday, June 8 and June 10-14.
The City of Remsen is declaring an amnesty from the landfill disposal cost during the above designated dates of June 8 and June 10-14, 2024.
Up to 2,000 pounds per household of “throw away” material delivered to the Plymouth County Landfill in LeMars, Iowa, will be paid by the City of Remsen and not billed to the household.
Only residential properties (not commercial or industrial) can participate.
Each household that wishes to participate must make their own arrangements and is responsible for hauling their material to the landfill during this amnesty period. All loads must be covered and/or secured or a $15.00 fine will be imposed on the resident.
The City WILL NOT be picking up items at curbside as done prior to 2014. Do not place items in front of your house at curb side.
ITEMS NOT INCLUDED IN THIS AMNESTY:
• CONCRETE
• HAZARDOUS WASTE (paint, thinner, pesticide, insecticide, herbicide, batteries, fertilizer, fuels, oils)
• TIRES
• NORMAL HOUSEHOLD GARBAGE
• YARD WASTE
• SHINGLES
Citizens must pay per item a de-manufacturing charge at time of drop off for any “White Goods”. These include: air conditioners, microwaves, washers, dryers, refrigerators, freezers, fluorescent lights, water heaters, furnaces, dishwashers, dehumidifiers, ranges, ovens, trash compactors, and other cooling units.

Water Line Identification

Please watch your mail!

The Environmental Protection Agency, along with the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) has mandated an inventory of all water service lines. Please complete the form and return to City Hall during business hours or by mail/drop box.

Any service line that does not have a completed form will require an onsite inspection by City of Remsen staff.

If you would prefer an onsite inspection, or have questions identifying your plumbing materials, please call City Hall at 786-2136.

Snow Plows Pulled

The City Crew have been attempting to open the City streets to no avail.  The wind is quickly eliminating any progress that has been made.  We are pulling our snow plows off the City streets until the wind dies down and our efforts can make an impact.  Please do not attempt to travel.
